The creative process is a human process. Whether one is creating drawings and paintings, scientific experiments, the engine of a car, quilt, or a steaming loaf of bread, there is something inherently human about using our hands to create, communicate ideas, emotions, needs, and wants and reflect our connections to the world around us.
I have been creating drawings since being able to hold a crayon. Over time, I have come to understand the process of creating exists as a thread, binding us with humanity across cultures, beliefs and time.
This approach to creating is addressed quite directly in my work. The markings are reminiscent of primitive human markings. However, the characters are also references to modern symbols, both alphabetical and scientific. Circles and lines are the fundament of mark making throughout human history. I hope to combine these references into one picture plane, one experience. I further hope to allude to a smattering of human marks, their multiple references not only giving way to multiplicity of meaning and time.
This body of work purposes to illuminate the common threads of communication and means of recording and reflecting the beauty of the human experience across cultures, experiences and time.
